Some stops worth mentioning include Athabasca Falls, Athabasca Glacier, Cirrus Mountain Viewpoint, Chephren Lake, and Bow Lake. Large park offering water recreation on Alouette Lake, 3 campgrounds & extensive hiking trails. For the purpose of this blog, I focus on this scenic route, which is 860 kilometers (535 miles) long. One of my favourites is Peyto Lake, which is a lake shaped like a wolf that is surrounded by endless amounts of pine trees and mountain ranges. With that said, the most direct route isn't the most beautiful (in my opinion.) for $77 CAD on the Colombia River one of Canadas most famous rivers! Not a lot of parking, maybe 8 spots. Ok, so this is a bit of a cheeky inclusion, as Emerald Lake is not located in Banff National Park. Burgess towering 2,599m above. For something a bit more moderately priced in the West End in the middle of the action try The Listel Hotel Vancouver. Enjoy shooting from the shore or rent a canoe and head out onto the lake to find interesting views from the water. For something a little nicer, check out theMountain Retreat. Its unique electric blue color is what makes Peyto Lake one of the 5 most beautiful lakes in Banff National Park. Lower, Middle, and Upper Joffre Lakes are the highlights of a hike through Joffre Lakes Provincial Park, with their stunning turquoise blue water. Shannon Falls is directly south of Squamish (another stop on your road trip), and the hike to the falls is rather straightforward and level. The views are spectacular. Peyto Lake, youre doing it from a high vantage point and a distance. Beautiful blue waters of Peyto Lake look surreal and is an iconic viewpoint in Alberta. Located just an hour from Vancouver, the falls are a perfect first stop where you can eat lunch, stretch your legs, and take in the sights of the beautiful falls! Wear warmer clothes and defiantly try the glacier water you can kneel down and scope some water into your mouth WOW! Instead, I recommend that you take the slightly longer route through Whistler. Probably a 10 minute walk back and forth. Settle in for an hours journey, as the next stop along the Icefields Parkway will be for lunch. Before you decide to head off and explore the gorgeous mountains, lakes, towns, and cities around Canada its important to have the right equipment. The Lake Louise Inn can still be an affordable option but quite a bit fancier than the above hostel. You will have to fly from Vancouver to Calgary and then drive to organize transport to Lake Louise from there. You won't regret. It has retreated about 2km since 1844, when it reached the rock moraine on the north side side of the road.
